    Nominet in the media

I see Anthony posted it over at acorn

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...on-ruling.html

Article written by a complete idiot again, "For more than a decade, Nominet worked well and helped Britain become one of the most advanced internet economies in the world. But by 2008 it was in crisis: a group of members known as “domainers”, who speculatively register web addresses in the hope of selling them on for big profits, threatened to seize control of the company and run it in their own interests."

    lol, did they really?

Just popped this on the nominet forum:

For any Nominet member this is a 'must read': http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...on-ruling.html

I recall conversations where I was told that Nominet did not want government intervention. It is pretty shocking to learn there appears there was a parallel process in play.

    From the article:

"The Government, under the auspices of Lord Mandelson, then the business secretary, stepped in. It demanded that Nominet allow an independent corporate governance expert to investigate and on the basis of his report passed laws in the Digital Economy Act that give the Government power to seize control of the company if it does not approve of the way it is run.

Publicy, Nominet said it did not want Government intervention and had not sought to involve officials, but documents obtained from the tribunal by The Telegraph show that was disingenuous.

They show that senior management privately asked officials to intervene in a strategy referred to as “Plan G”. It was developed over email, with Department for Business officials using private email addresses in an effort to dodge Freedom of Information Act requests. Similar anti-transparency practices have since been exposed in other departments.

The documents also show, and the employment tribunal found, that Lesley Cowley had the ostensibly independent governance review amended to remove sections she did not like, including a suggestion that Emily Taylor be made a board member."

    Is this true?

Is it possible for Members to be told of 'Plan G' and who was involved?

Are there any other organisations Nominet communicates with via private email addresses to negate FOI?

Are there any other independent reports that have been amended ? If so, which and what was changed?

Yours, currently appalled hoping for clarity & correction,

    Rob.

It would be very interesting to see what emails were exchanged between Nominet and BIS via private email accounts.

Likewise, has any action been taken against those who did it from both Nominet & BIS point of view.

Nominet ain't subject to a FOI, so the private email addresses would have been the Governments. This story could have legs further in the mainstream media as that is a big no no for ministers to act like that.

I see Invincible posted this link on acorn http://www.nominet.org.uk/news/latest/?contentId=9468

Hard to tell who is right or wrong in these things once all the spin has been put on things. I think I'll keep my head down these days, nobody knows who is right and wrong. I hate sitting on the fence but I've learned when it comes to Nom towers it is the most comfortable place to be.

Problem is though that Taylor also says she was bullied by "Davies and Hanton", what? Angus bullying someone is a joke. you couldn't wish to meet a nicer a guy. Also "Nomsteer was used to attack staff", where the hell did she get that from? I was on Nomsteer, it was used to question people and attack them for non answer or answers that didn't add up. To say that someone would attack a person who worked at Nominet at random is so silly it is stupid.

So her evidence doesn't fit for me neither.... I'm not locked in certain burt I am 98% sure that she was named in the Jay Daley tribunal as bullying him and making up evidence, the independent guy actually said that in his report.

I have learnt from bad experience with Nominet not to get involved, smoke and mirrors all the way and I was lucky to walk away from that stuff in 2009.

Arh, I got it wrong.. It was Eleanor Bradley involved in the Jay case not Emily Taylor.... Just been reminded by a good friend.
