I thought I would kick off a thread which hopefully get a few people posting up some interesting geeky stuff about the internet.
Here's something I never knew until last night but found it very interesting. (maybe I'm the only one on here? - Haha)
Recaptcha is used by google to digitise text from books that were published before the computer age. http://www.google.com/recaptcha/learnmore
And there was me thinking it was just a security service - Ah no, Googles got everyone working for free - Genius!
That's bloody clever - never had a clue. Now I won't be cussing at the 'stupidity' of these again.

I saw this several months ago, however, I'm guessing that the system must allow you to get one of the words wrong as it puts a known and unknown word for you to verify. Interesting use of the system though

I've known about recaptcha for a while, great idea, fairly well executed and they got bought out by Google, who were apparently going to use it to help with their efforts on Google Books and some others.
Here's one of my favourite questions/answers on Quora recently: http://www.quora.com/Air-Force-One/Whats-it-like-to-fly-on-Air-Force-One
Love the fact that people have to pay for their in flight meals!

Amazing article! I note that Reagan didn't charge for food in his day - I don't expect Nixon did either ;)
