View Full Version : Twit/twat needs twatter/twitter help

Never got my head around this Twitter thing.

OK, so I have one Twitter account (personal - aZooZa) with followers, and one for UKDF (ukdomainforum - currently less followers).

I want to tweet from the UKDF Twitter account, but to the followers of my personal account (all domain industry etc.)

So what's the deal here guys/gals? Is this some sort of 'retweet' thing?

And by the way, what does the '#' thing do?

I knew I'd passed a generation gap when this new social media stuff became popular

Thanks!

A retweet sounds like what you need, tweet via the ukdomainforum account, then retweet from you aZooZa account, and your personal followers should also see it.

The hash tag is/was used to measure trends and allow people to follow a topic on twitter. So, if some people have a 'saved search' set up for #domains, if you pop that on your tweet, it may get seen by those people.

Similarly, lots of TV shows are trying to do this now, by stating a hash tag on the show, they're generating 'measured' discussion online. My partner's always tweeting things with #scd for strictly come dancing.

Thanks Dave - making some sense of it now!

You are unable to tweet from your UKDF account directly to followers of your aZooZa account unfortunately.
The best way is to ask all your relevant personal followers to follow your UKDF account as well.
If all the required people then start following both accounts, be sure not to retweet your aZooZa tweets all the time from your UKDF account, otherwise anyone following both accounts will get the same tweet twice, and may get fed up.
So maybe get followers to just follow one account or the other for relevant tweets to them.

Either DM (Direct Message) each of them if a few, but if loads, then just tweet a few times over the course of a few weeks on your aZooZa account that more domain industry tweets will now come from the UKDF account, and that they should start to follow that account as well/instead. Monitor this until the followers to UKDF increase.

The '#' thing - the hashtag - very useful to keep relevant tweets together - e.g. you're at a conference, and the savvy organisers set a hashtag for everyone attending to use, thus keeping things together, and can also help you meet another delegate at that conference who you wouldn't have otherwise met, which could be good for future business.

You see a lot of tv shows now displaying the # (e.g. #HIGNFY ) at the start of the programme - helps connect like-minded people / fans of the show, and helps the tv show get talked about more often.

There's other uses too, and using Tweetdeck or Hootsuite or Seesmic is handy for managing several lists/accounts/search queries in one place.

I could talk a lot more... :)

Edit: I am a slow typist, and great minds think alike ! :)

p.s. you made me laugh, as my girlfriend calls it 'Twitter-Twatter' too !!
I may set up an account for her musings, as she doesn't like Twitter, and sounds like @shitmydadsays sometimes !
lol

Now I'm getting even more confused - but thanks all for the advice. Looks like the folks following UKDF also follow me on aZooZa. I might just twat/tweet from that account. Bloody nightmare here as twutterly is utterly blanked by the GFC (Great Firewall of China) using PPTP/L2TP/SSL. I can sometimes get a connection on the iPhone with PPTP but it lasts only a few seconds :(

I have never really got into it, signed upto a new account as the old one was taken over some time ago. But rarely have much to say. My wife lives on it, always tweeting or what ever the latest term is. Great for promotional use and retweeting interesting bits and bobs.

You should probably publicise that you can be followed at:

I don't want to hijack the thread, but while we're on the topic of Twitter, you can now advertise on Twitter if you have American Express:

Companies are also auto generating news stories based on what is tweeted:

This is becoming more aggravating actually. I've just looked at my 'aZooZa' twit page, and the third and fourth tweets were not made by me. Can anyone explain this? I have never tweeted about a "$50 Starbucks card" or a "CNBC $107 bonus".

Thanks.

Maybe you were hacked?

You can delete your own tweets (just hover over the tweet and a delete button should appear).

Change your password.

Thanks Jeff. I've changed the password now, but will still leave those rogue tweets there in case anyone else has seen anything similar. The destination URLs (after interpreted by the shorteners) appear many times in Google
